ROCKINGHAM — A group of local lady bikers were able to raise more than $3,000 to purchase presents for residents of Pence Place — despite not riding.
Organizers of the event canceled the ride portion as storms rolled through Richmond County on Saturday, however they still sold raffle tickets and auctioned off several items at the Hide-A-Way Tavern.
The fundraiser brought in $3,760, according to Taylor Lingren, who said the money will be used to purchase clothes, toys and room decorations for the young residents of Pence Place.
Pence Place, affiliated with Monarch, has been in operation for three decades and serves children up to age 21 with intellectual and developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injury. It is currently home to nine children.
Anyone who still wishes to donate can contact Lingren or Felicia Sachs through Facebook or drop off donations at the Hide-A-Way.
The group plans to deliver the gifts on Dec. 9.
The Hideaway will be co-hosting the fourth annual Back the Blue Ride this coming weekend, along with Cross Roads Grill (formerly Jerry’s Deli) in Laurinburg.
The ride will start in Scotland County, with bikers rolling to the Hide-A-Way to meet up with others, then leave the bar and ride past all law enforcement agencies in both counties.
Proceeds from the event will be split between those departments for their shop with a cop or deputy programs.
Last year’s ride raised $14,000.
