ROCKINGHAM ― The race for the 9th Congressional District apparently isn’t quite over.

Despite Democrat Dan McCready’s concession to Republican Mark Harris, the N.C. State Board of Elections has failed to certify the contest for the second time this week due to “claims of numerous irregularities and concerted fraudulent activities related to absentee mail ballots” in Bladen County, the Charlotte Observer reports.

Democrat Dan McCready conceded to Republican Mark Harris late Wednesday afternoon, following a tight election that left McCready fewer than 2,000 votes behind.

ROCKINGHAM — Despite only carrying two of the eight counties in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District, former pastor Mark Harris came out on top in Tuesday’s mid-term election.

It was after 1 a.m. before the N.C. State Board of Elections showed all 210 precincts reporting, with Harris defeating Democratic opponent Dan McCready by fewer than 2,000 votes.

ROCKINGHAM — Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee shook hundreds of hands Wednesday in the first of four stops campaigning for House hopeful Mark Harris.

A large crowd of conservatives, including local pastors and politicians, awaited the Republican heavyweight’s arrival in the parking lot of the Richmond County Cooperative Extension office, which is serving as an early voting site.

Huckabee took the time to pose for photos — including a selfie with Hamlet City Manager Jonathan Blanton — sign autographs and briefly speak with those in attendance.

ROCKINGHAM — One congressional candidate has some heavy hitters stumping for him on the campaign trail.

Former Arkansas governor and two-time presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee will be making several stops throughout the 9th Congressional District on Wednesday, including in Richmond County, encouraging voters to choose Republican Mark Harris.

He is scheduled to be at the early voting location, the Cooperative Extension office on Caroline Street, around 1:45 p.m., before heading west for appearances in Anson and Union counties later in the afternoon.
