One can sense a special feeling of wonder in the air as December comes rolling around. It is a time of year like no other; something magical happens as folks prepare for Christmas.

Richmond county is filled with a festive display of lights which can be seen all around, and larger-than-life lighted blow-ups fill folks’ yards. Lighted trees with beautiful decorations capture our eyes as a star stands erect atop. Manger scenes are set up as they represent the true meaning of Christmas: the selfless giving of God. The gathering of family and friends is always a special time, especially at Christmas. Excitement fills homes as children open gifts.

In John 3:16, a well-known verse, it is mentioned how God gave his only son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. The greatest gift-giver ever known to mankind gave the greatest gift to us many years ago; Jesus, pure love.

As we enter into Christmas, we too will celebrate the love given to us as we also share in the spirit of giving as well as receiving. We watch as night falls and millions of lights illuminate the darkness with breathtaking beauty. We choose to hang these lights as they have a magical attraction in similarity to our Lord Jesus Christ, as he is the light of the world. We sing “Joy to the World” in praise for the most wonderful gift ever.

Let us not forget the true meaning of the season, as well as keeping the spirit of love throughout the entire year. Let us daily carry the light of Christ in order to illuminate the darkness all around; where there is light, darkness has to flee.

May you and your family enjoy the magic of the season and have a wonderful Christmas day.
