HAMLET — Although the doors have been open for about two weeks, owners of a new do-it-yourself craft studio in Hamlet will be snipping the red ribbon later this week.
The Richmond County Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, May 13 for Bisque Quick on Hamlet Avenue.
Teresa and Dean Maples had a “sneak peek” grand opening on April 29.
Teresa Maples said to think of the studio as “an adults’ art class,” with a variety of bisque-style pottery, Chalk Couture, blank and pre-drawn canvases to paint, sublimations, and other artsy activities.
She said they will also help teach customers how to do something, if they don’t know how.
“We have pretty much anything decor you can think of for the house that you want to make,” Maples said. “We … can help you do it here and have supplies, so you don’t have to make a mess at home.”
Maples said they had previously held paint-and-sip activities with the bisques, “but I just wanted to bring it a step further and just kind of help everyone do everything that they wanted to do.”
“We can teach them how to do it so they don’t have to buy the expensive equipment, but they can come here and learn how to do it … if they just want to do a little bumper sticker, or something like that,” she said.
The Maples’ plan to have free events for kids, couples’ nights, as well has offering personal consultations and will have the studio available for party reservations.
She said she wanted to offer a nightlife activity “other than a bar,” and have something adults could do with their kids.
Most of the current inventory of bisque pottery is premade, but Maples said they are in the process of buying their own molds to pour their own.
“Everything will be made here in Hamlet, as far as the bisque, starting soon,” Maples said, “…so that’s kinda neat, too.”
Bisque Quick will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
This is the third recent business to open in downtown Hamlet in recent weeks.
On the same day Bisque Quick held its soft opening, next-door neighbor Axe to Grind — part coffee shop, part hatchet-throwing business — held its grand opening.
Nerdy Collective, within walking distance on Main Street, also opened its doors prior to a ribbon cutting May 4 and grand opening May 7.
