Grants available for agricultural projects

RALEIGH — The North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission is accepting applications for the 2022 grant cycle. Successful projects will meet the key objectives for 2022: create positive impacts for rural communities, stimulate economic development and support the agricultural industry. Funds will be awarded in the fall of 2022 for selected innovative projects.

N.C.’s Apple deal named worst of 2021

RALEIGH — The $846 million subsidy deal that North Carolina struck with Apple just topped the “year’s worst” list of a nonpartisan economic think tank. The Center for Economic Accountability selected the 39-year agreement to put Apple’s campus in Research Triangle Park as the “Worst Economic Development Deal of the Year,” saying that its annual $21 million cost to the state led the list of reasons.

HAMLET — Richmond Community College’s Board of Trustees approved a bridge program that will allow paramedic training to count toward credits in the Emergency Medical Science associate degree program. The board granted this motion at its monthly meeting on Dec. 14 at the Hamlet Campus.
