Fashion and Style: What’s the Difference?

Jewyll Pearce

Fashion is what you buy, while style is what you do with it. That seems to be a simple solution, right? Well maybe, but for some, shopping off the runway or buying the latest trends may appear to be a breeze, but it’s not always a perfect outcome.

How many times have you purchased an outfit, got home and tried it on, only to realize that it looks nothing like what you had imagined? I can definitely relate to this. I’ve been just a tad bit heartbroken that pleated skirts and straight floral dresses, in no way or fashion did anything for my curves or my personal style.

It can be disappointing but trust me, not all has failed. In relation to fashion, style is more of what you do with the trends to transform them into a style that best suits you. Not every trend will be for everyone, and that is okay. Remember it should be a reflection of who you are, how confident it makes you feel, and what message you want to communicate to the rest of the world. You should always take into consideration these three things: your personality, body style and your body shape.

Body shape is all about proportion! Knowing your body proportion helps you decide how to hide or enhance parts of your body. This can also help to achieve a more balanced, polished and confident, stylish look. Once you have determined your shape, you may then  consider which trends to embrace and which to avoid.

Everyone has the ability to look and feel good, it just takes effort and knowing what works best for your individuality. Remember Fashion says “Me too,” while style says “Only me.”

In the next article we will discuss the many body shapes and how to flatter the best parts of you!
