Harvey Auman

ROCKINGHAM — Harvey Donald Auman, 86, of Rockingham, completed his earthly journey on Sunday, May 17, 2020.

Mr. Auman was  born Sept. 5, 1933, the eighth of 10 children of Charles Roe and Minnie Mae Freeman Auman.

He had served his country in the U.S. Army and retired from CSX Railroad after 40 years of service. He served as chaplain of the Rockingham Lions Club, was a former member of Ellerbe Lions Club and had been Lion of the Year in both clubs. He was a member of the William F. Ingram Chapter 59 of the DAV where he had served as chaplain. A member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Rockingham, he had also been a deacon at Riverside Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia, Second Baptist Church in Hamlet, First Baptist Church of Ellerbe and Saron Baptist Church in Ellerbe.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years, Hilda Melton Auman; children, Wanda Caldwell (Patrick), Donald Auman (Virginia), Douglas Auman (Cindy), and Chris Auman (Wanda); 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Clara Holt.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, a private family graveside service will be held at Richmond County Memorial Park. A public memorial service may be held at a later time.
