Member of The Prodigy, band scheduled to play first night of Epicenter, found dead

ROCKINGHAM — The frontman for a band scheduled as one of the top three headlining groups for the inaugural Epicenter Festival has died.

Keith Flint, vocalist for The Prodigy, was found dead of an apparent suicide Monday in his Essex, England home, media outlets report.

The band’s website on Monday featured just one page with the following message:

“It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother Keith Flint who sadly took his own life over the weekend.

“We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time.”

Flint joined the electronic band in 1990 as a dancer and was featured as a vocalist on the 1996 single “Firestarter.”

He was 49.

The Epicenter show at Rockingham Dragway was the fifth concert scheduled on the band’s 2019 North American tour.

It is not yet known if the band will go on to perform or if another band will fill in.

Singer Chirs Cornell, of the bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, committed suicide about a week after performing at Carolina Rebellion in May 2017.

Epicenter takes the place of Carolina Rebellion, which had been held at Rock City Campground at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the past several years. The second year of the hard rock and heavy metal festival was held at Rockingham Speedway.

News of the festival was announced in December by promoter Danny Wimmer presents, with the following bands scheduled to perform:
