Region IV Health Equity Council to host ‘Vaccination Access: Strategies and Resources for Eliminating Transportation Barriers’

ATLANTA — Several federal agencies that comprise the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Region IV Health Equity Council, are collaborating with local and state leaders to host their second listening session event for the health equity series entitled “Vaccination Access: Strategies and Resources for Eliminating Transportation Barriers.”

The purpose of the event is to share and discuss effective strategies implemented and resources available to eliminate transportation access barriers to COVID-19 vaccinations. The goal of the event is to empower participants to implement these strategies within their respective communities and counties.  

While the speakers will focus on six rural counties in North Carolina and South Carolina, the information presented will be useful and impactful to rural counties throughout the region and beyond. For this reason, all are welcomed to attend and participate. The virtual event will be hosted via Zoom on Tuesday, July 27 at 2 p.m. EST.  Registration begins on Friday, July 16, and closes on Monday, July 26. This HHS Region IV Health Equity Council’s state-specific event will feature state/local leadership from the Department of Transportation and Primary Care Association from North Carolina and South Carolina.   • Johnny Mmanu-ike, director for the Office of Public Transit-South Carolina Department of Transportation 
  • Scot N. McCray, chief executive officer, Advance Community Health-North Carolina 
  • Ann Lewis, chief executive officer, CareSouth Carolina-South Carolina 

Cornell Wright, executive director for the Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services will moderate the question and answer portion of the event.
