ROCKINGHAM -- The Richmond Observer announced today that it has tapped Jimmy McDonald as its new sports photographer.

"Jimmy is a tremendous photographer," said Lance Jenkins, co-founder of The Richmond Observer and agency manager at Farm Bureau. "We are grateful to have someone of his caliber on our sports team, and it really raises the bar for what we can provide our viewers."

McDonald's other photography work is highlighted in downtown Rockingham restaurant Patton's Grille, where his photos of landmarks in the Richmond County area line the walls. He also owns his own business, Jimmy McDonald Photography.

Chamber Seeks Board Nominations

The Richmond County Chamber of Commerce Nominating Committee is now seeking nominations for the 2018 board of directors.  Four board seats with three-year terms each are now open. Board Chairman Chuck Cobb has appointed board member Ken Hartley of Therafirm, as the Committee Chair.  Serving with Hartley on this year’s nominating committee are: Neil Robinette of Tri-City, Kenny Melvin of Farm Bureau and, Terry Lewis of Maness Tire, Bruce Hamilton of Duke Energy and Chris Sachs of Sachs Enterprises.

Richmond County Soil and Water Conservation District is now accepting applications for Disaster Recovery Funds. These funds will Cost-Share on Agricultural Pond Repairs, Non-Field Farm Road Repairs, and Stream Debris Removal (for government agencies or Non-governmental agencies).

The opportunity to apply for these funds closes Friday, September 1st, 2017.

HAMLET – Nonprofit specialist Sam Gore will be presenting a free seminar from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Cole Auditorium in Hamlet.

ROCKINGHAM -- Dawn Grooms has participated in Richmond County Special Olympics (RCSO) since she was 10 years old; Dawn is now 49 years old. She competes in all the local competitions and has made it to the state level numerous times. When asked what her favorite game was, she stated “bocce.” Dawn has helped with many fundraisers for RCSO throughout the years, which includes Buddy Roe’s Bike Ride Fundraiser each May. This inspired Dawn to take the initiative to start a fundraiser on her own.

HAMLET - Richmond Community College will hold a mandatory orientation for its fall truck driver training course at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, in room 130 of the Lindsey-Petris Building on the college’s main campus in Hamlet. This orientation session is the first step for people who want to get into the training class and begin a career in the trucking industry.
