That is exactly what happened to Ann Ecolia Gainey of 705 Spring Street in Hamlet.
On Sunday, March 4th at approximately 1:30 a.m., Gainey placed a call to the HPD to report an “unauthorized use of a motor vehicle” at her residence.
Upon arriving at the scene, the officer discovered that Gainey herself was wanted for failing to appear in court in Anson County and was thus subject to a criminal summons and arrest.
The summons and the arrest warrant were served and Gainey was processed into the Richmond County Jail under a $1000 secured bond with an initial court date of March 20th.
There was insufficient evidence of any other criminal activity to require further action associated with Gainey’s initial complaint.
