HAMLET — A new detective with more than a decade’s experience in local law enforcement is taking a leadership role with the Hamlet Police Department.

Detective Lt. Dale Capel was sworn in Tuesday and will head the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Capel, a native of Candor, went through Basic Law Enforcement Training at Sandhills Community College and started his career with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

He then went on to work for the Biscoe, Mount Gilead and Wadesboro Police Departments.

Last month, the department hired Richmond County native Jeremy Benoist as an officer.

Benoist earned an Associate in Criminal Justice degree from Richmond Community College in 2018.

He was sworn in Oct. 14.
