ROCKINGHAM — A regional chain restaurant is working on a site a little more than a mile down the road from its current spot.

According to a building permit filed with the city of Rockingham, Biscuitville is constructing a new location at 1214 E. Broad Ave., the former site of Wallace and Sons Tire Center, between CVS Pharmacy and Badcock Home Furniture and More.

The new construction is estimated to cost $951,700 and Biscuitville, which is headquartered in Greensboro, lists general, electrical, HVAC and plumbing contractors from the Triad area.

The permit gives no date on when the construction will take place.

County tax records show the current property, at 302 E. Broad Ave., is owned by Lumberton Attorney Richmond Page. The new location was granted to BV 205, LLC on Nov. 18, 2020

According to the company’s “Our Story” page on its website, former flour broker Maurice Jennings opened two Mountainbrook Fresh Bread and Milk stores in Burlington in 1966 and, the following year, opened several Pizzaville locations featuring biscuits for breakfast.

The first Biscuitville opened in 1975 in Danville, Virginia, and the company had expanded to eight locations, including in North Carolina, by 1978.

The company’s first headquarters opened in Graham in 1979 and moved to Greensboro in 2007, with Biscuitville boasting 50 locations.

Biscuitville rebranded in 2014 with the current logo and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016.

City officials had no available records as to when Bicuitville opened its Rockingham location.

Representatives for Biscuitville could not immediately be reached for this story.
