HAMLET – A local company, Therafirm, is proud of their contribution to US-made products and will celebrate accordingly on US Manufacturing Day.

On Friday, October 5, along with other US manufacturers, local textile manufacturer Therafirm will celebrate the proud American manufacturing heritage on US Manufacturing Day.  The celebration will consist of a biscuit bar breakfast prepared by executives and managers as a gesture of thanks to its employees.

Therafirm was founded in the 1950s as Parke-Davis Hosiery, the company that developed one of the first gradient compression stockings in the United States. In the mid-1990s, Therafirm moved to Richmond County, an area known for its rich history in the textile industry. After much success through the 20th century, fierce competition from developing countries in the emerging global economy forced the textile industry into hard times.  Therafirm survived when many manufacturers closed down altogether or moved their factories offshore.  After being purchased in 2000 by Kansas City, Kansas-based medical textile manufacturer, Knit-Rite, Inc., Therafirm built their current state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Hamlet in 2013 – keeping operations in Richmond County.  Therafirm recognized that the expertise and experience of its own employees was a valuable asset and made a commitment to keep manufacturing in the US, and more specifically in Richmond County, North Carolina.

And it is that asset that will be celebrated on Friday.  “Our employees work hard and take pride in that work,” Ken Hartley, Vice President of North Carolina Operations, said. “That results in the highest quality American-made products, which we stand by.”  It’s a testament to the company’s mission: improving both the lives of those who use our products, and outcomes for those who prescribe and provide them, through our commitment to innovative and competitive American-made textile solutions.

Therafirm employs highly skilled workers from both North and South Carolina in several different capacities.  Employees average 8 years of service with the company, while many have more than 20 years.  Employees trend toward long tenures due to the unique family atmosphere, supportive, full-range benefits, a quality, encouraging, hands-on management style, and a genuine commitment to quality in both people and products.

In addition to its commitment to its employees and US manufacturing and in the spirit of its corporate mission, Therafirm has also expanded the exporting side of business, bringing that mission of improving lives worldwide.  Currently Therafirm exports to customers in more than 50 different countries.  The efforts were recently recognized when Therafirm was named as the 2017 North Carolina Rural Exporter of the Year in a ceremony hosted by North Carolina’s Governor, Roy Cooper.

“This award was a proud statement to our employees and our community that this year and beyond, medical textiles made in rural Richmond County, NC, are exported throughout the world!,” Chris Vering, Therafirm President, said.

There’s a lot to look forward to for Therafirm employees, as business, both in the US and abroad, continues to soar.  But, this Friday morning, they’ll celebrate their significant contribution to US and North Carolina manufacturing with a lovingly-prepared, hearty breakfast and words of true appreciation.
