ROCKINGHAM — With Hinson Lake as the backdrop, senior cross country runner Carson Jordan joins this episode of Course Side Chats.
A four-year runner for the Raiders, Jordan is training for his final season with the program. The Richmond boys’ and girls’ teams, along with head coach Jessica Covington, have been working out several days a week at Hinson Lake the last month and a half.
Per the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s revised COVID-19 sports calendar, the cross country season has been pushed back to a Nov. 4 start date. Along with volleyball, cross country will be one of two sports to return to official action later this fall.
In his interview with sports editor Kyle Pillar, Jordan talks about his progression the last three years and what type of leadership role he hopes to fulfill as a senior. He wants to help grow the interest of the sport, especially with cross country starting the new athletic year.
Jordan also offers his thoughts on the team’s schedule and running in cooler weather, as well as highlights some of the challenges of the new, hillier course outline at Hinson Lake.
