HOFFMAN — Monday’s Town Council meeting began with a gift of charity and memorial and ended with a proclamation of remembrance and celebration.

Resident Erica Joy made a presentation of a free-standing swing placed at the Hoffman Town Park to be given as a gift to the town as a memorial of her daughter Jasmine who was killed in a car accident on Feb. 6.

“The purpose of the swing would be to provide a fun and safe play time for our youth of various ages,” said Joy. “Jasmine had a love of children and a passion for physical fitness of training, conditioning and coaching the youths for different competitions in the Winston-Salem area.”

The motion to accept the gift of the swing passed unanimously.

In monetary matters, Finance Officer Minnie Myers said that good progress is being made in closing out the fiscal year.

“All of the accounts are matching up,” said Myers. “We have a minor overage, but when we finish closing out for June we will be ready for our upcoming audit.”

The board also set and approved a minimum threshold of $150 for the use of purchase orders.

Kyona Jones, head of the Street Department, said that she had been continuing to work on the list of streets that needed repairs and that there had been unauthorized dumping of trash on Seaboard Street.
