Railroad crossings scheduled for temporary closure in Richmond, Anson counties

ROCKINGHAM — Several local railroad crossings are slated for work later this month and will result in detours for several days.

Southern Commercial Development, which is in charge of traffic control for CSX, announced Tuesday that eight crossings in Richmond County and six in Anson County that will be closed Nov. 27-Dec. 1.

Angela Nelis, chief operations officer of SCD, said that five crossings are “are one way in/out with homes behind” and that her supervisor will notify those residents so they can “plan accordingly.”

Those crossings should only be closed for about 12 hours, as opposed to the three to five days for other crossings, according to Nelis. No vehicles will be able to cross during the closures, Nelis said.

Three of the crossings are on the south side of the south prong of Falling Creek in the East Rockingham area: Broad Avenue; Bass Street; and N. Beaunit Avenue.

Moving along the track to the west, the following crossings will be closed: Biltmore Avenue; Asheworth Drive; S. Long Drive.

Those six crossings are scheduled to close Nov. 27.

The crossing on Midway Road, just past Little Carr Creek, is slated to close Nov. 28. There is no date listed for the crossing on Zion Church Road near the von Drehle plant.

Across the river, the crossing at Pee Dee Road is scheduled for Nov. 29; while those on Gravel Plant Road, a private road on the BV Hedrick property, state road 1744, Haileys Ferry Road and Cowan Street in Lilesville are noted for Nov. 30.
