ROCKINGHAM — Shirley Mullis Mills, 84, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, April 9, 2021 at her home.

Shirley was born on Nov. 7, 1936, daughter of the late Guy and Louise Mullis.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, William Lloyd Mills Jr.; and her brother, Ronnie Mullis.

She is survived by her children, Hayley Putnam of Hamlet (Benny) and Gray Mills of Rockingham (Karen); granddaughters, Hannah and Becca Mills, grandson Benjamin Putnam; and many special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Shirley started her career with the CPA firm of W. Jesse Spencer and continued at Dixon Odom for 45 years. She was awarded Secretary of the Year by the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce. Her life was devoted to her family. She was an avid Elvis fan and loved gardening. She was always having fun and was known for her mischievous pranks on family and friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockingham and enjoyed singing in the choir.

The family received friends at First Baptist Church in Rockingham on Sunday, April 11, 2021 from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a service celebrating her life at 2 p.m.. A graveside service immediately followed at Eastside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, 201 N. Randolph St., Rockingham, NC 28379.
