To the editor:

BSA Troop 64 in Rockingham is now accepting applications for youth between the ages of 11 and 17 who wish to join scouts.

Scouting is all about building confidence and self-esteem, learning important life skills and leadership skills, team building, outdoor adventure, education, and fun.

Scouts learn how to make good choices and to take responsibility for their actions so that they are prepared for their adult life as independent persons.

Eagle Scouts value perseverance, discipline, motivation, leadership, accountability and achievement — and those lead to tangible benefits. College admissions officers recognize the award and consider it in their decisions. Being an Eagle Scout won't make up for poor grades, but it will give them an advantage. The military also recognizes the Eagle Scout and in most cases (individuals can) exit basic training at a higher rank or selection to officers candidate school.
