Kids’ dental care, job fair among June events at Dobbins Heights Community Center

DOBBINS HEIGHTS — Free dental care for Richmond County children this week at the Dobbins Heights Community Center.

A dentist from N.C. Public Health will be at the center at 8 a.m. Tuesday to give exams and sealants will be placed on teeth to keep kids from getting cavities Wednesday through Friday, also beginning at 8 a.m.

The event is free and open to all Richmond County children. Forms can be picked up at the community center.

The “Get Fit Quick” exercise program is moving to the pool for water aerobics during the summer from 10-11 a.m. Mondays-Wednesdays. The class will meet at the community center first.

The next Habitat for Humanity training session will be at the community center from 9 a.m.-noon June 15 for anyone who wants to help with builds in the Dobbins Heights area. For more information, contact Amie Fraley at 910-639-4016.

The next Senior Game Day will be from 2-4 p.m. June 19. This month’s game is poker-keeno. Participation is free and there will be food and prizes available.

The town will host the annual Stop the Violence march starting at 8 a.m. June 22. In addition to a march, the event will include food, performances and other activities. For more information, contact Varnice Morrison at 910-206-2321.

The center will also host a N.C. Works job fair on June 29. Several jobs have been posted and more are expected.

The community center has partnered with Family Video $1 Movie Night, conforming “into the essence of a theater experience,” according to Sumaya Webster, community center coordinator.

“We will be showing new and recent movies at the community center on the last Friday of each month and as time builds and the audience builds we will make it every Friday, hopefully with a concession stand,” she said.

This month’s movie is “What Men Want,” starring Tarji P. Henson.

The community center is located at 222 Earle Franklin Drive, next to Dobbins Heights Park. For more information on events, contact Webster at 910-582-0170.
