ROCKINGHAM — As the sports scene continues to heat up around Richmond Senior High School’s facilities, several programs are looking for community support to kickstart the 2020-21 athletic calendar.

Aside from the football team hosting a digital fundraiser to support itself, as well as the general athletic fund, the Raider baseball team and Lady Raider volleyball team are also hosting fundraisers.

The volleyball team is one of two programs that will start the new sports year in November, and head coach Ashleigh Larsen is looking for sponsors. To join the “Heavy Hitters Club,” a donation of $100 secures a square on the donor board that hangs in Raider Gymnasium.

This year, donating parties will receive Lady Raider volleyball t-shirts as a thank you from the team. The volleyball team’s season gets underway Nov. 17 at Purnell Swett High School, and the funds raised will go toward travel costs, equipment and general team needs.

On the baseball diamond, the Raiders won’t play until March, but head coach Rob Ransom is taking advantage of the fall season to help boost his team’s funds.

For many years, the Richmond baseball team has had success with selling fruit. This year is no different, as fans have nearly 20 options to choose from, with packages running between $20 and $60.

The annual fruit sale for the baseball team ends on Nov. 3. To support the baseball team, any prospective player can be contacted and orders are available for pickup and delivery.

“Our fruit sale is a big fundraiser, the baseball program has been involved with the fruit sale for almost 40 years,” Ransom said. “We hope to use this year’s money to purchase balls and a net for a portable batting cage.”

For questions or to donate, Larsen and Ransom can both be reached at Richmond Senior High School by calling 910-997-9812.
