ELLERBE — Author BJ Rae held a book signing of her book “Cloud People” Sunday afternoon at the Ellerbe Springs Inn and Campground.

Guests were invited to refreshments and a video of Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Mariel Hemingway speaking on the book.

From the forward by Hemingway, “Cloud People is important because it is important to know yourself — to know the resilience that you have, especially as a child…to appreciate how amazing our childhood selves can be.”

While guests sampled refreshments in the main inn, others had their purchases signed by Rae in the Spring House.

Rae feels that coming to Richmond County has been a blessing from God.

“The highlight,” said Rae, “has been talking to people about surviving and that they can survive anything.

“People ask me what the point of the book is and I tell them and they relate to me things that have happened in their life and things they are going through and it’s fun to encourage people.”

Rae said she has been fortunate in meeting a number of people who have helped her along the way — including finding a new home. She attributes her successes to her faith.

“You have to believe in yourself and God to be able to get through the storms of life.”
