ROCKINGHAM — A local youth wrestling program is looking to grow its numbers this winter.
The Raider Amatuer Wrestling Club, an Amatuer Athletic Union (AAU) program, is holding sign-ups for middle school and high school wrestlers.
Serving as an additional development program for Richmond Senior High School’s wrestling program, the Raider Amatuer Wrestling Club is run by Earl Nicholson, who served as Richmond’s head wrestling coach for nearly 25 years.
Meeting every Sunday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Richmond County Ninth Grade Academy, the wrestling club costs $25 per month.
Nicholson noted that the cost covers a wrestler’s insurance, uniforms, team equipment and competition expenses.
“Wrestlers will learn wrestling techniques, wrestling strategies, strength and conditioning, healthy habits and we will have lots of fun,” Nicholson said.
Sign-ups will be held on Sunday, Dec. 19, Jan. 9 and Jan. 16 at the Ninth Grade Academy.
