ROCKINGHAM — An Ellerbe man is accused of breaking into an East Rockingham home over the weekend.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to an active breaking and entering report on Mill around around 12:40 a.m. Saturday, March 14.

Using their flashlights, deputies reportedly found 34-year-old Demitrous Akeem Little lying in the yard. Little reportedly matched the description of the suspect given by the caller.

(NOTE: The press release and some court records list Little’s first name spelled as “Demitrius.”)

Little allegedly failed to “comply with deputies’ commands to show his hands, which were underneath his body.” Deputies say Little also pulled his hands away while they were trying to arrest him.

One of the deputies reportedly saw a handgun — described in warrants as a semi-automatic Parabellum 9mm — on the ground within Little’s reach.

Little was charged with possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts of resisting a public officer.

He is being held on a $50,000 secured bond on the misdemeanor charges and without bond on the felony charge. According to the sheriff’s office, a release hold was placed “due to his failure to comply with the fingerprinting process.” He is scheduled to appear in court March 26.

Little was convicted of accessory after the fact to second-degree murder in 2012, spending nearly four years behind bars, according to records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction.

Other prior convictions include:

2010 - assault on a female

2017 - possession of a firearm by a felon *

2021 - attempted misdemeanor breaking and entering, second-degree trespassing.

(* According to DAC records, the incident date for the charge appears to be before Little was released from prison.)

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
