ROCKINGHAM — Fitness industry veteran Dewayne Jones has been named the new director of FirstHealth’s Fitness Center in Rockingham.
Jones brings more than 15 years of experience in fitness operations, wellness programming and business development at facilities across North Carolina.
Jones earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Lenoir Rhyne University and holds numerous certifications. Jones said his approach to helping people achieve their health and wellness goals is meeting them where they are making sure members don’t overcomplicate their fitness journey.
“I want people to feel stronger, more confident and more capable in their lives, which fits perfectly with FirstHealth’s “exercise is medicine” approach. To me, exercise is a tool for improving your health and quality of life so you can keep doing the things with the people you care about,” Jones said.
Jones said the Richmond center is a perfect fit and has a “familiar, nostalgic” feeling.
“The Richmond center combines two things that are very meaningful to me: being a part of a wonderful organization like FirstHealth and having the opportunity to provide a safe, encouraging space for the community.”
Outside of work, Jones said he values spending time with family friends. He also spends a lot of time cooking for the people in his life. He also enjoys music, nature, exploring local areas and new places.
John Caliri, administrative director of FirstHealth Fitness, said he’s thrilled to have Jones join the Fitness team.
“Dewayne has incredible experience helping people achieve their fitness goals, and we are thrilled that he’s joining the FirstHealth family,” Caliri said. “We look forward to all the ways he will help us serve our fitness members in Richmond County.”
