ROCKINGHAM — A Hamlet man is facing several felony charges after allegedly being caught with narcotics by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
According to an arrest warrant, 66-year-old Richard Stewart Dockery was found in possession of an unspecified quantity of cocaine and methamphetamine, 7.9 grams of marijuana (“separately bagged”), digital scales and baggies on Oct. 14.
Dockery was also allegedly found in possession of a H&R Arms .22-caliber pistol.
He was arrested the same day and charged with one count each of: possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana; possession of methamphetamine; possession of cocaine; possession of drug paraphernalia (misdemeanor); maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance; and possession of a firearm by a felon.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail on a combined $60,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 23.
Dockery has had a clean record for nearly three decades, but had quite a few convictions over a 20-year period starting in 1977, according to the N.C. Department of Adult Correction:
1977 - misdemeanor larceny
1980 - receiving stolen goods
1981 - felony breaking and entering, felony larceny
1984 - two counts of felony breaking and entering
1989 - assault with a deadly weapon (later changed to assault inflicting serious injury) (Bladen County)
1990 - selling a Schedule II controlled substance, possession with intent to sell a Schedule II controlled substance (Bladen County)
1991 - misdemeanor breaking and entering, larceny
1995 - assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, driving while impaired
1996 - driving while impaired, driving while license revoked (Scotland County)
1998 - driving while license revoked, possessing stolen goods
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
