ROCKINGHAM — A woman with an outstanding warrant for more than two years was recently taken into custody.

An arrest warrant alleges that 47-year-old Linda Gail Vuncannon, of Hamlet, signed over a Woodman of the World life insurance check to the reported victim, receiving $821.22. She then allegedly put a stop payment on the check and reportedly told the bank that she never signed it over.

Vuncannon is also accused of taking three checks from the reported victim.

The incident date is listed as Nov. 15, 2023 and the warrant was issued to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 23, 2024, charging Vuncannon with one felony count of obtaining property by false pretenses and a count of misdemeanor larceny.

Vuncannon was arrested Sept. 24, 2026 and booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $2,500 secured bond. Records show she posted bail the following day and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 15.

“The passage of time does not diminish our responsibility to thoroughly investigate allegations of criminal activity,” Sheriff Mark Gulledge said in a press release. “I appreciate the continued efforts of our investigators in following this case through and bringing it before the judicial system.”

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Vuncannon was convicted in 2013 on a school attendance law violation.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
