HOMECOMING: XDA returns to Rockingham Dragway

ROCKINGHAM — 2025 has been a big comeback year for motorsports in Richmond County, with the return of NASCAR to Rockingham Speedway — and now the homecoming of the Xtreme Dragbike Association to Rockingham Dragway.

The XDA first announced in October that it was coming back to the Rock for the first time in over a decade as part of the series’ 25th anniversary.

The series was founded in 2001 by brothers Chris and Jason Miller and ran at Rockingham and Maryland International Raceway, the latter then-owned by their father Royce Miller.

In its quarter-century existence, the series has evolved from MIRock to the International Dragbike League (2015) and the XDA (2018).

Chris Miller passed away in April 2024, but Jason Miller continues to run the series.

"We’re thrilled to be back at Rockingham," Miller said in a press release. "Dan VanHorn and Al Gennarelli have truly outdone themselves. Their relentless work on improving the facility ensures that we can offer our racers and fans the same top-notch experience they’ve come to expect at Maryland International Raceway and Virginia Motorsports Park."

Those improvements include resurfacing the track and pit areas and new timing system, as well as updated restrooms, a renovated suite on the third floor of the tower, the On the Rocks bar and a stage for live music.

The owners, who bought the track from Steve Earwood in late 2022, have also begun repairing the aging concrete grandstands.

"Rockingham Dragway has a rich history and restoring it to its former glory has been a labor of love for us," VanHorn said in a press release. "We're incredibly proud of the upgrades we’ve made, and we can’t wait to showcase the facility to the XDA community. This track has hosted countless memorable races over the years, and we’re excited to welcome the next generation of XDA racers and fans back for an unforgettable homecoming in 2025."

In addition to being the co-home of the series, Miller said the Rock “holds a special place” in his heart.

“I won more motorcycle races there in the 2000s … than at any other track,” Miller said. “It’s great to be coming back for what feels like a true homecoming."

This weekend’s event is expected to bring more than 600 motorcycles with drivers in more than 15 classes competing for more than $100,000 in payouts.

The action starts Friday afternoon and runs through Sunday evening.

"Let’s make this Homecoming at The Rock one to remember," Miller said. "As Fabian would say — "We’re going to put on one hell of a show!” So, bring your friends and family, and let’s create unforgettable memories together."
