I Can Scholarship Foundation Inc. joins 'Joyful Harvest' event to promote youth literacy in Richmond County

HAMLET — The I Can Scholarship Foundation Inc. proudly participated in the “Joyful Harvest” community event held this past weekend on the campus of Prayer and Faith Temple Church. The event served as another meaningful step in the Foundation’s mission to empower communities and invest in youth.

“Our focus is to impact communities by investing in youth,” said Jay Everette, executive director of ICSF Inc. “Participating in community events like Joyful Harvest allows us to continue our commitment to supporting literacy across the region.”

Because of continuous community support and donated books, ICSF is able to extend its efforts in promoting reading and strengthening youth literacy. These contributions help the organization place more books into the hands of children who need them most and support families in building strong reading habits at home.

Literacy remains a critical issue in Richmond County. According to recent educational data, less than half of elementary students read on grade level, and many students enter middle school struggling with foundational reading skills. Research consistently shows that students who are not proficient readers by third grade are more likely to face long-term academic challenges. ICSF is committed to addressing these gaps by increasing access to books, offering literacy-focused programming, and partnering with local schools and community leaders.

During the Joyful Harvest event, ICSF engaged families, distributed books, and highlighted upcoming literacy initiatives designed to help young readers build confidence, skills, and a lifelong love for learning.
