HAMLET — The I Can Scholarship Foundation Inc. welcomed the first days of summer with smiles, laughter, and community engagement during its youth ice cream social held this past weekend.
Designed for youth ages 10-14, the event brought together young people from across the community to build positive peer relationships, enjoy friendly competition, and celebrate the start of summer break.
The afternoon was filled with activities that encouraged teamwork, communication, and social interaction. Thankful to our corporate sponsor Enviva, participants enjoyed a variety of ice cream treats, played board games, and competed in interactive challenges for the opportunity to win gift cards and prizes. The event provided a safe and welcoming environment where youth could connect, make new friends, and create lasting memories.
"The youth are our future; it is imperative that someone is willing to step up and help lead the next generation," said Jay Everette, executive director of the I Can Scholarship Foundation Inc. "Our mission is to impact communities by investing in youth, creating opportunities for growth, leadership, and positive engagement."
A highlight of the event was the introduction of Quest, the I Can Bulldog, the Foundation's newest member of the youth engagement team. Quest made a special appearance to help build excitement and encourage participants to become leaders within their schools and communities.
More than just a mascot, Quest represents the Foundation's commitment to developing future leaders and inspiring young people to excel in reading, STEM education, community service, and personal growth. Throughout the event, Quest challenged youth to dream big, stay curious, and embrace opportunities to reach their full potential, all while sharing summer reading books and snapping pictures.
The ice cream social reflects the Foundation's ongoing dedication to creating meaningful programs that support youth development and strengthen communities. By providing opportunities for positive social interaction and mentorship, the organization continues to invest in the next generation of scholars, innovators, and leaders.
As summer begins, the I Can Scholarship Foundation looks forward to expanding its youth engagement initiatives and introducing additional programs that empower young people to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
