FAYETTEVILLE — The Richmond Senior High School girls tennis team, coached by sixth-year head coach Jessica Covington, continued its strong start to the season on Thursday, defeating Jack Britt High School 9-0 to secure its third consecutive victory.
The Lady Raiders swept all six singles matches and added two doubles victories, while also benefiting from a Jack Britt forfeit in the third doubles match.
Leading the way in singles competition was senior Colbie Covington, who earned a 6-3 victory over Mira Rajababoo. Sophomore Molly Covington added an 8-5 win against Mihika Nakkala, while junior Sydney Barnes defeated Demi Oluwadimu 8-1.
Junior Erin Drumwright was dominant in her match, posting an 8-0 shutout over Zoya Saqib. Sophomore Rylee DeCubellis added an 8-3 win against Camille Brown, and senior Natalie Richardson completed the singles sweep with an 8-1 victory over Catherine Orellana.
Richmond carried its momentum into doubles play. The duo of Molly Covington and Drumwright earned an impressive 8-1 victory over Rajababoo and Nakkala.
The match also marked the season debut for senior Macie King and sophomore Sadie Grooms, who teamed up to defeat Brown and Orellana 8-4 in doubles action.
Jack Britt forfeited the third doubles match, giving Richmond its ninth and final point of the contest.
With the win, the Lady Raiders improve to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Mid-South Conference play.
Richmond will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 8, when it hosts conference rival Hoke County High School.
