ROCKINGHAM — Police charged a man Thursday after he allegedly opened fire in the city limits.
According to investigators with the Rockingham Police Department, 34-year-old Lynn Jackson, of Rockingham, “walked outside and started shooting” on Church Street, which connects E. Washington Street and Leak Street.
Police say neighbors called to report the incident and that Jackson was still at the scene when officers arrived.
No injuries or property damage were reported.
Jackson was arrested without warrant (on a magistrate’s order) and charged with a single count of discharging a firearm in city limits. He was booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $1,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court March 26.
Online court records show Jackson has several pending traffic citations from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and N.C. State Highway Patrol from 2025.
Jackson has been charged with several crimes in the past, but those charges have all been dismissed, records show.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
