ROCKINGHAM — Investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office have charged a man who allegedly shot into an occupied home in the Jefferson Park neighborhood.

Samuel Ruiz-Perez, 21, of Hamlet, is accused of firing a pistol into a home on Chestnut Lane on Nov. 1.

According to warrants, the home was occupied at the time of the shooting by six adults — including a woman with whom he’d had a previous relationship — and four children. The youngest child is reportedly just a three months old.

Ruiz-Perez was arrested the same day and charged with one felony count of discharging a weapon into an occupied property, as well as a count of misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

He was held without bond over the weekend, but his bond was set Nov. 3 at a combined $1, 010,000 secured. Ruiz-Perez is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 13.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
