FAYETTEVILLE — Four applicants have filed certificate of need applications with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to acquire a fixed PET scanner in response to a need determination in the 2026 State Medical Facilities Plan for a fixed PET scanner in Health Service Area V.
The projects are as follows:
- FirstHealth of the Carolinas Inc proposes to acquire a fixed PET scanner to be operated at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Moore County. The project is expected to cost $4.5 million and would be completed in October 2027.
- Cumberland County Hospital System Inc proposes to acquire a fixed PET scanner to be operated at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Cumberland County for a total of two fixed PET scanners upon project completion. The project is expected to cost $3.8 million and would be completed in February 2028.
- Brunswick Community Hospital LLC and Novant Health Inc propose to acquire a fixed PET scanner to be operated at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center in Brunswick County. The project is expected to cost $10.9 million and would be completed in January 2029.
- Coastal Cancer Care & Imaging LLC proposes to acquire a fixed PET scanner to be operated at a freestanding imaging center — Coastal Cancer Care & Imaging — in New Hanover County. The project is expected to cost $5.3 million and would be completed in June 2028.
A public hearing for these projects will be held Aug. 14 at 10 a.m. in the meeting room at Cliffdale Regional Branch Library, 6882 Cliffdale Road in Fayetteville.
Anyone may file written comments concerning this proposal. Comments must be received by the Healthcare Planning and Certificate of Need Section no later than 5 p.m. on July 31.
