PINEHURST — FirstHealth is pleased to welcome nurse practitioner Katie Abrams, AGPCNP, to its Heart Failure Clinic team in Pinehurst.
Abrams brings several years of heart care experience to FirstHealth after caring for patients in a cardiac surgery ICU.
Abrams earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2026. She also earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at UNC. Abrams said she is excited to join the Heart Failure Clinic and will focus on patient-centered, quality care.
“I believe in listening to patients, involving them in their care and focusing on education and prevention,” she said. “My goal for patients is they feel heard, supported and confident in managing their health.”
Abrams said she was inspired to pursue health care after the death of her grandmother.
“I lost my grandmother unexpectedly to a heart attack, which sparked my interest in cardiovascular health. After spending six years as a cardiac surgery ICU nurse, I knew cardiology was where I wanted to continue my career,” she said.
“Becoming a nurse practitioner in the Heart Failure Clinic allows me to build long-term relationships with patients and focus more on prevention, education and chronic disease management.”
Outside of work, Abrams said she enjoys spending time with her husband and their golden retriever. She also enjoys pickleball, going to the beach and reading.
Heart Failure Clinic
FirstHealth opened its Heart Failure Clinic in early 2020. Once a patient is referred to the clinic, they will undergo an extensive evaluation by a team of experts in the management of heart failure and receive appropriate therapeutic options and educational needs that will help them better understand and actively manage their heart failure.
The goal of the clinic is to minimize rehospitalization, reduce mortality and improve the quality of life for patients with heart failure.
