Everett L. “Butch” Greene, 68, of Rockingham, passed away suddenly on Aug. 26, 2026 at his home.
He was born July 20, 1958 in Scotland County, a son of the late Jesse Lewis and Helen King Greene.
Butch graduated from Richmond Community College and was employed by the Scotland County Tax Office. Later, he and his family moved to Snow Hill and he served as tax assessor for Greene County. He moved to Richmond County and continued his career with the tax office as well as N.C. Department of Corrections, retiring after 40 years of service.
Butch enjoyed fishing, camping and the outdoors in general. He loved the coast and hoped to move to the beach.
Butch is survived by his son, Ryan Greene and daughter Aaryn McKenzie (Mackie) and children. He is also survived by his siblings, Catherine Boone (Terry) and William “Billy” Greene; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service for family and friends will be held at a later date.
