Gary Dean Goodwin, 71, of Cordova, passed away at his home on Monday, June 29, 2026.
He was born Oct. 17, 1954 in Richmond County, son of the late William Harold Goodwin and Betty Lou Ponds Goodwin.
Gary was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and faithful friend whose life was centered on his family and faith.
Gary dedicated more than 37 years of service to Alpha Plastics, now Global Packaging, where he worked his way into a supervisor position before retiring. He was respected by his coworkers for his strong work ethic, leadership, and commitment throughout his career.
A faithful member of East Rockingham Freewill Baptist Church, Gary lived his life with quiet faith and a servant's heart. He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially fishing, tending to his garden, and cooking for those he loved.
Above all else, Gary treasured his family. He shared a lifelong love story with his childhood sweetheart, Bridget, who became the love of his life and devoted wife. Together they built a family that was the center of his world.
Gary will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering dedication to his family, and the example he set through a life of hard work, faith, and love. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his legacy will continue to live on in the lives of his family and friends.
Along with his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brothers, Tony Goodwin and Christopher Goodwin; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Faye Chavis; and brother-in-law, Roger Lowery.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Bridget Chavis Goodwin of the home; sons, Christopher Goodwin and Michael Goodwin (Charlene), both of Rockingham; grandchildren, Amber Liles (Kaleb) of Kansas, Michael Brent Goodwin (Lexi) of Oklahoma, and Hunter Goodwin of Rockingham; great-grandchildren, Easton, Charlotte, Brent-Brent and Elias; sister-in-law, Sue Lowery of Rockingham; brother-in-law, Tim Chavis of Rockingham; and his beloved fur babies, Bella and Snowie.
