John Thomas “Tommy” Fletcher, 85, of Rockingham, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026 at Richmond County Hospice Haven, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Oct. 19, 1940 in Hamlet, son of the late Thomas Joshua Fletcher Jr. and Lula Mae Ingram Fletcher.
Tommy was a devoted member of Cordova United Methodist Church and a man whose greatest joys came from his family, his faith, and the many people he welcomed into his life.
He was a dedicated football coach at Calvert High School in Prince Frederick, Maryland, where he shared his love of the game and made a lasting difference in the lives of his players. His passion for sports began long before coaching. During his senior year at Rockingham High School, he proudly served as captain of the football, baseball and basketball teams. In high school, he was affectionately known by the nickname “Duck.”
Family was always at the center of his life. He treasured time with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and extended family. Some of his favorite memories were made hunting and fishing with his nephews and simply enjoying the company of those he loved.
He had the wonderful ability to make everyone feel special and seen. He welcomed people into his life with an open heart, and he was lovingly accepted into the Baldwin family as one of their own. His amazing sense of humor could brighten any room and he enjoyed creating songs for his family as part of his ability to make them laugh.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but the memories he created and the lives he touched will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, former players, and loved ones.
Along with his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Mae Baldwin Fletcher.
Left to cherish his memories, significant other Pat Culler; daughters, Kimberly Fletcher Groh of Greenwood, South Carolina, Kathy Fletcher Mazepa (Christopher Bramlett) of Liberty, and Karen Fletcher Rosnage (Thomas) of Prince Frederick, Maryland; grandchildren, Dillon Mazepa, Kelly Mazepa and Mackenzie Groh (Sarah Beth Pye); and brothers, Bill Fletcher (Betty) of Greenwood, Deleware, and Bobby Fletcher (Toni) of Seven Lakes.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026 from 2:30-4 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home, Hamlet.
