Lois Gause Childers, 86, of Ellerbe, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026 at FirstHealth Hospice House, West End.
She was born Nov. 11, 1939 in Sanford, daughter of the late George Lundy Gause and Eliza Omelia Ivey Gause.
Lois was a woman of deep and abiding faith whose life reflected her love for God and for others. Prayer was the cornerstone of her life, and she never hesitated to pray with or for anyone — anytime and anywhere. Those who knew her often spoke of the peace, comfort, and even miracles they experienced through her faithful prayers. She had an extraordinary knowledge of Scripture and could quote much of the Bible from memory, sharing God's Word with wisdom, encouragement, and love.
A devoted member of Covenant Presbyterian Church for several years, Lois faithfully served the Lord through her prayers, her kindness, and her steadfast Christian witness. Her faith was evident not only in what she said but in the way she lived each day.
Lois found joy in God's creation, especially flowers. She was gifted with her hands and loved sewing and creating crafts for those she loved. In her later years, she discovered a special enjoyment in coloring books, displaying creativity in every page.
While living at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living in Candor, Lois became known for her warm smile, welcoming spirit, and genuine interest in everyone she met. Residents and staff affectionately nicknamed her the "Welcome Wagon" because she made every new resident feel valued and at home. Her kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Lois will be remembered as a faithful servant of God, a devoted prayer warrior, and a woman whose love, generosity, and gentle spirit touched countless lives. Her legacy of faith and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Childers; brothers, Luther Clewis and Rudolph Clewis; and sisters, Bonnie Hunsucker and Mildred Brown.
Left to cherish Lois’ memories is her daughter, Dean Monroe (Elvin) of Ellerbe; son, Teddy Smith (Teresa) of Rockingham; grandchildren, Jeff Patrick (Nikki), Brian Patrick (Christy), Travis Monroe (Brooke), Jason Smith (Sarah), Stacy Shehan (Doug) and Tiffany Webb (Travis); great-grandchildren, Jeremy Patrick, Peyton Monroe, Preston Monroe, Jax Smith, Talley Webb, Tinley Webb, Easton Shehan and Logan Shehan; along with her many friends and staff at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care that she dearly loved and cared for.
