OBITUARY: William C. Reynolds

William C. “Billy” Reynolds, a loving and faith-filled man whose life was marked by devotion to his family, church, and community, passed away on July 9, 2026, at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

He was born on April 10, 1936, in Richmond County, North Carolina.

Billy graduated from Rockingham High School and later earned a business degree from Elon College. His education provided a strong foundation for a career that would span decades of faithful public service and professional dedication.

Billy worked for several years at Richmond Memorial Hospital and Scotland Memorial Hospital before joining the City of Rockingham, where he served with distinction as city clerk, treasurer, and finance director for 34 years. 

His service extended well beyond his work. Billy served on the Richmond County Economic Development Board and gave many years of leadership to the North Carolina City Clerk Association for District 8, where he served for 24 years. He was also a devoted member of the Rockingham Civitan Club and the Rockingham Lions Club. In addition, he was a Mason of Lodge 495 for 60 years and was honored with his 60-year pin, a recognition that reflected his enduring loyalty and fellowship. Through all of these associations, Billy demonstrated a lifelong commitment to service, fellowship, and the betterment of others.

He was preceded in death by his parents Willie Guy and Mabel Butler Reynolds; and his wife, Delma Freeman Reynolds.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 12, 2026 at 3 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Rockingham with the Rev. Darrell Bowles officiating. Burial followed at Eastside Cemetery. The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. in the church sanctuary prior to the service.

Billy’s life was distinguished above all by his devotion to family. He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Morrison and husband Chris, and Pam Pivach. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Ryan Morrison and wife Chelsea, Matthew Pivach and wife Cameron, Kristen Gibson and husband Brandon, Laura Montelaro and husband Brett, and Thomas Pivach.

His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Hadley Nicole Morrison, Adalynn Grace Morrison and Lillian Frances Montelaro. He is also survived by his stepsisters, Mary Catherine Boykin, Sara Whitsell and Joann Douglas. Billy treasured his family deeply, and his love for them was evident in the time, care, and encouragement he gave throughout his life.

A faithful member of First Methodist Church in Rockingham, Billy found strength and purpose in his faith. His church family was an important part of his life, and his beliefs guided the way he lived, worked, and cared for others.

In his leisure time, Billy enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family. These moments brought him joy and reflected the simple pleasures he valued most. Whether on the golf course, at home, or among friends and loved ones, he carried himself with warmth and sincerity that made others feel welcome and appreciated.
