ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County Aging Services is hosting several upcoming fundraising efforts to help the area’s older residents.

There will be a Rock-a-Thon from 10 a.m.-1-p.m. Wednesday, May 20 at the East Rockingham Senior Center.

According to a flier, seniors will team up in pairs and rock in rocking chairs during that 3-hour period to raise money to benefit programs at the center.

Rocker teams can be sponsored at $10 per hour.

The ERSC will also be selling $8 lunch plates from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. including two hot dogs, chips and a soda.

For pick-up orders, call 910-997-8332 or 910-410-1665.

Aging Services is holding a raffle, with the drawing at 10 a.m. June 26.

According to a sponsorship letter from late March, the raffle will help with items like Ensure and Depends, as well as assistance with utility bills — “...things that often determine whether a senior can remain safely in their home.”

“It also helps ease the financial burden placed on family members,” the letter continues, noting that “the costs of medications, insurance, and daily living expenses can quickly add up.”

Sponsors listed on a flier are: The Esthetics Lab-Wax Studio; Queen City Home Store; Lowe’s Home Improvement; Farmers Home Furniture; and Richmond County government.

Prizes for the raffle include: a 43-inch Samsung smart TV; a 32-inch Samsung smart TV; a soothing facial; a charcoal grill; a king sheet set; two Linea pillows; and a drill and impact driver.

Tickets are $5 each.

Aging Services is also holding a Christmas in July donation drive to “support seniors who are struggling with essential expenses such as utility bills, housing costs, and basic household needs.”

Requested items include: cleaning supplies; toiletries; essential household items; and financial contributions.

For more information on the raffle or donation drive, contact Pam Hill at 910-410-1131 or pam.hill@richmondnc.com or stop by the Rockingham Senior Center at 225 S. Lawrence St., Rockingham.
