ROCKINGHAM — A man currently on probation is accused of stealing a woman’s gun.

Records show 24-year-old Artavis Jahie Duncan, of the Hamlet area, was arrested without warrant on June 28.

Duncan allegedly stole a Taurus G2C 9mm handgun from a woman “by means of an assault upon her consisting of putting her in fear of bodily harm by the threat of violence.”

Documents do not indicate where the alleged crime took place.

A magistrate’s order shows that Duncan was arrested by a deputy with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and charged with common law robbery and carrying a concealed gun. He was given a $100,000 secured bond on those charges.

Records show Duncan is also being held without bond on a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Court records show Duncan had his first appearance June 29 and his next court date for all charges is July 9.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Duncan was convicted Jan. 6 on the following charges: assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill; possession of a firearm by a felon; and damage to property. He was given a 24-month suspended sentence.

Duncan was previously convicted in 2022 of assault inflicting serious injury and received probation in that case, as well.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
