ROCKINGHAM — A Hamlet woman was sentenced to 30 days in jail for reportedly disrupting court this week.
District Court Judge Amy Wilson signed an order on March 2, charging 28-year-old Jami Marie Baskins with criminal contempt.
According to Wilson’s order, Baskins “willfully behaved in a contemptuous manner.”
“The undersigned (judge) gave a clear warning that the contemnor's conduct was improper,” reads the order. “In addition, the contemnor was given summary notice
of the charges and summary opportunity to respond. … The contemnor's conduct interrupted the proceedings of the court and impaired the respect due its authority.”
There is no detailed description of Baskins’ reported “improper” conduct.
There is also no indication of why Baskins was in court. Records show she was charged in 2019 with communicating threats, but the charge was dismissed by District Court Judge Chevonne Wallace in 2020.
Baskins was booked into the Richmond County Jail where she is being held without bond.
