ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has filed charges against a woman accused of being inappropriate with a student.
Court records show that 40-year-old Amanda Faye Boulware, of Rockingham, has been charged with three felony counts of taking indecent liberties with a student.
An arrest warrant, issued April 22, alleges that Boulware took indecent liberties with a child under the age of 12 on Jan. 1. According to the warrant, Boulware was a teacher at Temple Christian School and the reported victim was a student at the school at the time of the alleged incidents.
General Statute 14‑202.4 defines indecent liberties as “Willfully taking or attempting to take any immoral, improper, or indecent liberties with a student for the purpose of arousing or gratifying sexual desire,” or “Willfully committing or attempting to commit any lewd or lascivious act upon or with the body or any part or member of the body of a student.”
The statute also states that, for this section, “the term indecent liberties does not include vaginal intercourse or a sexual act.”
No details on what the alleged acts were are listed in the warrant.
Boulware was arrested on April 23, records show.
The original release order indicates that no bond was authorized and Boulware was required to provide fingerprints and a DNA sample.
However, during her first appearance hearing the same day of the arrest, Boulware was given a $7,000 secured bond and released.
According to the modified release order, Boulware is prohibited from: having contact with any children aside from her own; being within 100 yards of where children could gather; and being on any school property.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for April 30.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
