ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior junior varsity soccer team continued its streak of keeping its opponent scoreless on Wednesday.
Unfortunately for the Raiders, they didn’t score either.
The Forest Hills Yellow Jackets made the trip from Marshville to Rockingham to take on the Raiders in the late summer heat.
Richmond’s coaches made several substitutions throughout the games to make sure the players were rested and hydrated. With a heat index of 107, there were two mandatory water breaks per half.
Despite a few close calls on both sides, neither team was able to sink the ball into the back of the net.
The varsity teams had the same issue: a few near-goals, but none successful.
Both games ended tied at 0-0.
“Two ties in a week is better than two losses,” head coach Chris Larsen told his players following the varsity game.
Earlier in the week, the varisty Raiders mounted a comeback in the second half to tie up the Montgomery Central Timberwolves 2-2.
Richmond’s JV soccer team is now 5-1-1 for the season and the varsity team’s record is 3-3-2.
Next week, the varsity team hosts Uwharrie Charter Academy on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m., and both teams will face Union Pines at home the following evening.
