ROCKINGHAM — A Lee County man is facing charges related to the alleged sexual abuse of a child several years ago.
An arrest warrant alleges that 35-year-old Neris Antonio Amaya Ramirez, of Sanford, engaged in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16 in 2023.
The warrant was issued July 20, 2026, charging Ramirez with one felony count each of statutory sex offense with a child 15 years old or younger, felony child abuse by sexual act and taking indecent liberties with a child.
Records show he was arrested July 21 in Lee County and booked into the Richmond County Jail on Aug. 3, where he is being held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 14.
Ramirez appears to have no prior criminal convictions in North Carolina.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
