ROCKINGHAM — An Anson County woman awaiting trial for manslaughter is facing several criminal charges after allegedly selling a stolen trailer and being caught with meth.
According to arrest warrants, 38-year-old Beth Anne Downer, of Morven, sold a 28-foot Lark dual-axle trailer to a Richmond County resident for $2,000 on Sept. 1.
Downer was also allegedly in possession of stolen furniture — including two beds, a table, a curio cabinet, chairs and a chest — and other household items.
The warrant shows that the trailer and furniture belonged to different individuals, but do not say where the items were allegedly stolen from.
An arrest warrant — charging Downer with two counts of possession of stolen goods or property and one count of obtaining property by false pretenses — was issued Oct. 1.
Downer was arrested Oct. 27, when she was allegedly caught with an unspecified quantity of meth and charged with a felony count of possession of methamphetamine.
She is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a combined $25,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 6. Her first appearance was Oct. 28 and records show she has a court-appointed attorney.
Online court records show Downer has a pending charge of felony larceny in Moore County and misdemeanor larceny and second-degree trespassing in Richmond County from earlier in the year.
She also has pending charges from 2024 of voluntary manslaughter and second-degree trespassing in Richmond County, as well as several drug charges — possession of methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule III controlled substance and possession of marijuana paraphernalia — in Moore County.
While records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show no prior convictions, court records show Downer was found guilty of shoplifting and misdemeanor larceny in May, but the case has been appealed to superior court.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
