ROCKINGHAM — A Montgomery County woman is facing several misdemeanor charges after allegedly setting a fire in southern Richmond County.

According to an arrest warrant, 31-year-old Gladys Marie Warren, of Candor, burned small sticks and pine needles about a quarter of a mile west of the intersection of U.S. 1 and Horseshoe Road on April 18.

The entire state of North Carolina has been under a burn ban since March 28.

Warren is also accused of causing damage to land owned by two people and being on the curtilage of someone else’s property between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. The warrant does not indicate how much property was damaged.

Warren is charged with: setting fire to woods, lands, fields; open burning when prohibited; injury to trees, crops or lands; and second-degree trespassing on curtilage.

The warrant was issued April 18 and Warren was arrested April 22. She is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a $10,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 14.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Warren has the following prior convictions:

2015 - first-degree trespassing, misdemeanor larceny (Scotland)

2018 - possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (Richmond)
