ROCKINGHAM — Jeremy Hollingsworth, a registered nurse at Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond, is the most recent winner of FirstHealth’s DAISY Award, which recognizes employees who go above and beyond to fulfill the system’s core purpose — To Care for People.

A patient in the ICU nominated Hollingsworth after having a meaningful experience with him.

"He is the best nurse you could ever have," said the patient. "Even on your worst day, Jeremy is going to turn it into a good day. I thank Jeremy for his hard work and dedication in the nursing field. I am a frequent patient because of my sickle cell, and we definitely always need nurses around us to help us push through our bad days."

His manager Gary Trexler, R.N., called him an exceptional nurse, who combines clinical excellence with genuine compassion and empathy.

"He goes beyond providing outstanding patient care by creating meaningful connections with both his patients and their families," he said. "Jeremy has a unique ability to make people feel seen, heard, respected and valued, especially during some of the most difficult and uncertain moments of their lives. His sincere presence, compassion and ability to build trust provide comfort and reassurance to patients and families alike. Jeremy’s dedication to caring for the whole person — not just the patient — truly sets him apart as an outstanding nurse."

About the DAISY Award

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was established by the Daisy Foundation, a not-for-profit, based in Glen Ellen, California. The foundation was started by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, a little-known but not uncommon auto-immune disease.

The care Barnes and his family received from nurses inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families. Today, there are more than 2,800 health care facilities in all 50 states and 17 other countries honoring their nurses with the DAISY Award.

FirstHealth of the Carolinas, which includes Moore Regional Hospital, Moore Regional Hospital–Richmond, Moore Regional Hospital–Hoke and Montgomery Memorial Hospital, is proud to celebrate all nurses who make a difference in the lives of those we serve every day.
