ROCKINGHAM — While some of the top drivers in drag racing will be going head-to-head at Rockingham Dragway for NHRA Nationals at the Rock, MB Drift will determine the best slider in its grassroots series across the street.
The 2026 MB Drift season champion will be crowned following Drift Wars on the infield road course at Rockingham Speedway.
Landyn Dysart, of Pinebluff, currently sits atop the leaderboard with 164 points after the 15-year-old earned his first win in the second round and was top qualifier in the first.
Gabe Broyles — who placed third in Round 1 — is second in the standings with 153 points, and Paul Smith —who won the second round in 2024 — is third with 152 points.
Belarusian native Anton Shenderov, who placed third in the second round and finished second overall in 2024, has 124 points for a No. 4 ranking.
2024 season champ Andy Lacause-Wright — who secured the title by winning both events in that year’s double-header —is another contender. Lacause-Wright won the first round and is tied at 120 points with Round 2’s runner-up Zack O’Sullivan.
Both Dysart and O’Sullivan are fairly new to competing in actual cars, but have experience behind the wheel from sim drifting.
Rounding out the top 10 are Ivan Herrera, Max Czibere, Chris Pass and Nate McDuffie.
Czibere — who finished second in this year’s first comp —has yet to win with MB Drift. He previously placed second and third, respectively, in the final two rounds of 2024, finishing third for the season; and placed third in the first round of 2025, ending the year in sixth place.
Lacause-Wright and Czibere missed this year’s second event due to competing with Catch My Drift.
Qualifying is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. Saturday and 11:45 a.m. Sunday, with competition slated for 2 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.
For those not competing, MB Drift will also have layouts set up for “fun runs.” There will also be night drifting when the sun goes down on Saturday.
This is MB Drift’s sixth season at Rockingham Speedway, having found a new home at the track after 15 years at Myrtle Beach Speedway.
Halloween Havoc, the final MB Drift event of the season, is scheduled for Oct. 24-25 and will include a costume contest and trunk-or-treat.
